Let me introduce myself. I’m Barney Cannon, and a year ago, on Valentines Day, I had a stroke. A bright note to that is that Valentines Day is off my list for buying cards and gifts!
Anyway, It’s been a looooong year, and I have decided to write about it. Strokes suck!! Like other types of brain injuries, they don’t give you much notice (in my case – none), and you are left to figure it out. By yourself mostly. So, with the help of others, I am. I say I am, rather than I did, because it’s an ongoing thing. And, I haven’t reached the end of the tunnel yet. Maybe I never will.
On top of that, I have decided to follow up on an old plan, and ride my bicycle across the country on the Trans-America Bike Trail. This is my new goal! And, that’s what this blog will be about. Now though, instead of just doing it for the heck of it, I hope to bring some awareness to everyone about strokes. Most people don’t know anything about them, and a lot of people who have had them just sit at home. They think that their life is over. It’s not, but they are starting a new chapter in the book.
